Elastic Shirring is a sewing technique usually accomplished with a sewing machine. However, the serger chain stitch takes elastic shirring to a new level of ease. There’s no need to wind bobbins and the results are fantastic. Let’s have some fun with this amazing stitch.
Our class project is a zipper pouch with a shirred insert. Constructing the bag gives you experience in using the chain stitch for shirring with elastic thread. That's not all! You will also cover and insert piping and insert a zipper on the serger.
If you use a cover stitch machine, you should also bring a 4-thread serger. Please download the supply list as soon as possible.
